IKEA Haul

Ikea Cacti Cactus

IKEA, the place where you go in to get a couple of things or even a browse and come out with enough glasses to open a bar, so many candles that you could re-make Alexandra Burke's Hallelujah video and 350 freezer bags (one of these is actually true!) so while we were in Glasgow last month we headed into their branch as although Aberdeen now has its very own store it's a crappy order and collect one where you go to the store, order your products and pay a delivery fee to get it delivered to there and not to your house.  There isn't even much in the way to buy like the Market Place products instore, needless to say it hasn't proved to be very popular with us Aberdonians!

Sorry for the rant, now back to the haul! :) We were after something to put on our kitchen wall as its just a plain boring magnolia colour, mural wallpaper had been previously discussed but we couldn't   settle on a design as Mr M wanted an Autumn forest look with trees and golden leaves which would annoy me for the 9 months of the year that it wasn't Autumn as I do like to decorate the house according to the season.  I quite liked the New York wallpaper of tall buildings and a yellow taxi but Mr M hated that idea, so off we went to have a look at the picture section of IKEA to see which one we liked. We couldn't decide on a picture that we both liked so in the end we chose a wall clock. A huge wall clock.  The Skovel clock is a lovely duck egg blue colour with Roman numerals on its face and it took a bit of getting used to when you first walked into the kitchen as its quite big but I love it now.

I bought quite a few storage boxes for an upcoming organisation project that I'm hoping to do by the end of the year but the way it's flying by it might well be on my New Year to do list so look out for that post.  Also these wooden crates come flat packed but are really easy to build, haven't yet decided whether to keep these for the aforementioned project or to use them as part of a Christmas gift idea, decisions decisions.

A blogger favourite, cacti made its way into our shopping bag along with the plastic grass and the galvanised plant pots.  We can't have real plants where the kittens are able to reach as we obviously don't want to poison them but Violet has already made her way onto the kitchen windowsill and has been chewing on the plastic grass so they have now been removed from there for the time being.  The cacti are safe out of curious kitties way by being placed on the bathroom windowsill but I guess it's just a matter of time before someone learns a valuable lesson that prickly plants hurt.

Without making the kittens sound like Tasmanian Devils that leave chaos and destruction in their wake, we also bought cushion covers that were made with a stronger material so they wouldn't pull and we could save our good cushion covers from getting wrecked by them. These are white with a blue-grey design on them, with a vine pattern on the front and a thin stripe on the back.

Freezer bags, see I told you one of those statements were true, I did really buy 350 freezer bags.  I like to use freezer bags for storing meat when I split a large pack as I won't use it all at once, for freezing soup that I've made too much of as well as a load of other things.  I haven't tried these yet so they better be good but in case they were I decided to buy a few packs since I wouldn't be heading back to IKEA for a while and if they are rubbish I will pass them on to my Mum :)

Do you go to IKEA and come out with exactly what you went in for or do you come out with a whole host of products?  What's your favourite IKEA buy?

Meal Plan Monday | Monday 19th September 2016

Hope you all had an amazing weekend? Although it was quite warm for September you do see that the weather is finally starting to turn into Autumn which is my favourite season.  Autumn weather brings warming foods such as casseroles, stews and soups, none of which are on my menu this week but will be making an appearance in the coming month.  While I was in Marks and Spencer this week I saw that they are starting to bring in their Christmas party food, this has spurred me in to use what is in the freezer to make room for the extra food we will be having over the festive period.  I am hoping to start buying some things for Christmas in the next couple of weeks so I don't have a huge food bill in December.

This week's menu is:

Monday - Veggie burgers, chips and gluten free onion rings.

Tuesday - Pasta Bolognaise and gluten free garlic bread

Wednesday - Bolognaise left overs

Thursday - Chinese Pork Steaks, sweet potato fries and veg

Friday - Slow cooked BBQ Chicken and rice

Saturday & Sunday will probably have a takeaway one day and something from M&S the other.

If you want to join in with the meal plan add your blog post link to the linky below, don't have a blog then just let me know what's on your menu in the comments.

Aberdeen | Linton & Mac 1st Birthday

Aberdeen Hairdressers

Linton and Mac is a hair salon like no other in Aberdeen, it has quite a cool and edgy vibe to it with copper mirrors, iconic prints, quirky nick-nacks such as matryoshka dolls and a flamingo head, and the bathroom flooring is made with shiny 1p and 2p pieces.  Established by Jennifer Linton and Joanna MacDonald, they opened their premises on Netherkirkgate only a year ago and have already won various awards including Best Business, One to Watch and Most Promising New Business to name just a few.

I went along to help them celebrate their first successful year in business as well as see their new looks for their Style Bar collection.  The Style Bar is a service that I've not seen offered elsewhere but for £25 they will style your locks in 30 minutes ready for you to look amazing whether you are off to a wedding or a night out, as well as a offer you a glass of Prosecco or a Gin & Tonic to help get you in the party mood.

Linton and Mac sure know how to party, as well as having amazing food such as sausage & mash canapés, mini baked potatoes with sour cream, mini pizzas they had a Build your own Bubbles Bar where you could add lemon, cucumber or strawberries as well as cordials such as Morello Cherry (my favourite) and lime to your Prosecco or Gin. The cute little Trolls pictured partying at the salon weren't just for decoration, some of them had white feet which meant that you won a prize.  Sadly the white-footed Trolls were quite elusive as I never came across one (sad times).

For such a high end salon I was expecting a price list to match but I was quite surprised on how much their services were as they are very reasonable and not any more than what I'm paying at my current hairdresser so I will definitely be scheduling a hair appointment with them in the next few weeks.  If you fancy heading along to Linton and Mac for their Style Bar or a for a cut and colour you can contact them on 01224 641664

Meal Plan Monday | 12th September 2016

Hope you all had a lovely weekend? It was my weekend off and I spent it relaxing and drinking Prosecco, what did you get up to?

Last week's meal plan didn't all go to plan as one day I just couldn't be bothered cooking anything so just ate junk instead and ended up having a takeaway on Friday rather than on the Saturday. This week's meal plan is:

Monday - Gammon Steak, Pineapple & Chips - Nice and easy after my marathon day at work.

Tuesday - Fajitas - was meant to have this last week and didn't

Wednesday - Going out! Yay no cooking tonight

Thursday - Gosh Quinoa Bakes & Polenta cubes

Friday - Baked Sweet Potatoes & Taco Beans

Saturday & Sunday - no idea yet as I'm working Saturday so will decide then

Remember and join in by posting your link below or write a comment on what you are having this week.

Aberdeen | Crolla's Gelateria

Crolla's Aberdeen

As we are having a surprisingly hot September why not cool down with some ice cream from Crolla's? Crolla's are an award winning family company that have been making traditional Italian gelato on site since 1895 when Serafino Crolla made the move from sunny Italy to ermmm rainy Glasgow.  Lucky for us that he did as their ice cream is ah-maz-ing!

After opening ice cream parlours around Glasgow they have decided to venture further north to Aberdeen with their first franchise which has just opened on 60 Rosemount Place.  They have a huge selection of ice cream flavours, when I say huge I mean HUGE, they have over 80 flavours of ice cream and not one of those nasty whippy ice creams in sight.  There are waffle cones, teddy cones,  sprinkle cones as well as your traditional cones, tubs, oysters, waffles and sundaes for you to eat it from.  They also do a cold stone creation where they combine two flavours of ice cream, add in some sprinkles, chopped fruit and add some sauce to create another amazing flavour.  The sundae above was made with Strawberry and Mango & Raspberry ice creams, meringue bits, fresh strawberries and toffee sauce.  It tasted so good!

Not an ice cream fan and more a savoury person? Don't worry, you haven't been forgotten about as they even sell Pizza Cones, sandwiches, soup and baked potatoes for your taste buds.

Which ice cream flavour will you go for? The Ferrero Rocher ice cream gets my vote!
