It's now September and Autumn is nearly upon us, it has felt Autumnal here for a while as there hasn't been much Summer weather this year. It has mainly rained all Summer apart from the odd nice day (usually while I am at work!) and we have only managed to have one BBQ this season, guess what it rained that day too!! I'm hoping for an Indian Summer but judging by the weather the last couple of days I doubt that will be happening up here either.
So if you are lucky enough and manage to get a really nice day where you can sit out or if you want to look at your holiday photos and reminisce about those distant memories while it is chucking it down outside then I recommend you make a pitcher of this Strawberry Sangria. It is a refreshing summery drink and you won't be disappointed. Everyone at the BBQ loved it but be warned if you eat those alcohol soaked strawberries, they are potent!
What you will need:
1 75cl bottle of White wine
1 Bottle of Sparkling Water
Punnet of Strawberries
3-4 tablespoons of Honey
Half an Orange
How to make:
After washing your strawberries, trim and halve them. Slice your orange then cut each one into quarter segments, keep half of the segments for later and place the remainder in to the pitcher along with the strawberries.
Pour the wine into the pitcher, add the honey and then stir until all the honey is dissolved. Place the pitcher into the fridge for at least 6 hours but no more than 24 hours (I chilled mine overnight).
Pour the sangria (including the fruit) into your glasses until they are half full. Top up with the sparkling water and a few orange slices before serving.
Let me know if you gave it a try and what you thought of it.
